Next Week at FPC (April 1, 2022)

Dear Friends,
It has only been a little over a week, but what a welcome the Dyer Family has felt to First Presbyterian and Spartanburg! Cards, food (lots of food!), visits, and even a concert! Truly incredible! We are so grateful to be a part of this community of faith and to begin serving with and alongside you all as we seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ for one another and for the community in which we live. My first and only real agenda item off the start line is to meet and get to know as many of you as possible. To that end, be sure to sign up for one of the upcoming “Connect Over Coffee” events happening over the coming weeks. These will be very casual opportunities for us to visit together over coffee in relatively small groups and for me to hear more about each of your hopes and dreams for FPC. Also, as you look through this week’s Weekly Update you will see that there is much excitement and momentum building across all our many ministries. It is truly a wonderful season in the life of FPC and a great time for all of us to jump back into the good things happening here. Blessings to you all. See you Sunday. Invite a friend.

Peace
Alan

Help Alan and his family get to know YOU!
Beginning on Sunday, March 27, and continuing throughout the month of April, please wear your nametag to services and church events to help Alan, Erin, Sam, and Jack get to know their new church family. This will also help us to get reacquainted with each other (for those brain cloud moments). Feel free to wear your Sonitrol Badge or one the laminated nametags. If you do not have a Sonitrol Badge, no worries, there is still time to have one made. Additionally, we will have blank nametags onsite for visitors or anyone in need of a nametag. Peace and Justice Task Force Spotlight
:
Racial Healing Circles are conversations that honor and value each person’s humanity, better reflect our common humanity, and build mutually respectful relationships across racial difference to bring about racial healing and repair in communities. They were developed as part of the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT) framework by Dr. Gail Christopher, who was the City of Spartanburg’s MLK Unity Celebration keynote speaker in 2020 just before the pandemic closed everything down. As she puts it, “A racial healing circle is not just a conversation, not just a safe space. It is an experience that engages the heart and requires the heart to be open and expansive. It re-affirms the humanity in all of us. It is a commitment to acknowledging that unconscious bias lives in all of us, and it is the spiritual work of affirming and loving ourselves.” To date, about 150 people in Spartanburg have participated in one. Please join us. To learn more and to register, visit https://justfuturespartanburg.org/racial-healing-circles.
