Weekly Update for June 25, 2021
Dear Siblings in Christ,
This week we welcomed CAST Camp back to our campus, and it has been an amazing week with those young people! See Gloria Close’s recap in the “Other News” section below, and please continue to pray for families living in local motels. Thanks be to God for this important ministry and those that make it happen. There will be two more weeks of CAST Camp scattered through the summer months.
Last Sunday was our second Shelter worship service. It was a really special time of worship, but I know a lot of you were in the midst of Father’s Day celebrations and summer travels. Be sure to check out the video recording at fpcspartanburg.org/worship . While you are there, you will also notice videos of a number of funerals we have had recently (and that’s not all of them). Please continue to be in prayer for all those who have lost loved ones.

Between services on Sunday morning, stop by The Perrin Room - just down the hallway from the Tower Room - for a drink of water or lemonade. If you have any questions about First Presbyterian, our Hospitality Team would like to help you find the answer. Additionally, if you are a church member in need of a Sonitrol Key Card, please come by to have your picture taken; your card should be available within the week. There is no charge for your first card (replacements are $10).
9:30am Sunday School for All Ages
Adults: “Welcome to the One Great Story” (Social Hall)
This summer, you are invited to join an adult class on the great sweeping story of the Bible. We will be guided by the new book by Dr. George Thompson entitled "Welcome to the One Great Story." Led by Dr. Lewis Galloway and Dr. Lewis Johnson, the class will help us understand how to interpret the wide variety of literature in the Bible and how the many stories of the Bible come together to tell one great story. This class is designed for all levels of familiarity with the scriptures. Copies of the book will be available for $28 in the Social Hall for those who want to go deeper than what is covered in class.
Adults: “Mountaintop Moments” (Parlor)
Grab a coffee and come catch up with church friends in the Parlor. Rev. Ansley Page will offer a devotion and discussion around mountaintop moments in Scripture and how they connect with our stories. A little extra lift for your Sunday morning!

OTHER NEWS
CAST Camp – Week 1 Recap
Twenty children representing six families participated in CASTing (Care, Accept, Share, Teach) for Christ Camp this week. The theme was Helping Others, and the scripture was The Good Samaritan, Luke 10:25-37. Marcia and Holt Andrews, along with Leslie Lang, held a special worship service for the children in the Sanctuary on Monday morning. Mrs. Marcia wrote a special song for the children which we hope to sing on our final day of camp in August. In addition to learning about Scripture and ways we can help others, they were active. Cathy Bagwell designed an art project, and each child has created a special stained heart canvas for their homes. They splashed at Barnet Park and had a picnic under the trees; they played at the Panthers Park and were treated to lunch by the Flock Shop! Mr. Pano created fabulous food so they could experience new things, have fresh fruits and vegetables, and learn to use a knife and fork. Pano and his staff have been loving and kind to our children. Chris Everette offered to drive a bus to pick up, drop off, and transport children to various camp destinations. We could not do this without the staff and volunteers previously mentioned as well as other faithful volunteers: Gail Ballard, Harriet Ike, Lynn Long, Scottie Lummus, Becky Reed, Ryan Reynolds, and Septima Smith.
Session Minute Typists Wanted!
Have you ever wanted to know what those weird little abbreviations from the 19th century mean? Do you want to be in on the creation of more accessible historical documents for the church? Do you ever wonder what really goes on in Session Meetings?
Well… THIS is your chance! We are beginning to type handwritten documents from the FPC Session into digital files, which will electronically preserve these documents and enable keyword searching. We are looking for folks that are willing to take home 10-20 pages at a time; completing the typing in about 2 weeks. All typing must be done within WORD. You will be given basic instructions that will include font and layout parameters. Afterwards, just email the documents and, if you would like, pick up additional pages for more typing. Interested? Contact Winnie Walsh at 864-579-1002 (landline) or winwalsh@charter.net.
