Welcome the Rev. Leslie Lang

First Presbyterian Church is pleased to welcome the Rev. Leslie Ann Lang as our new Associate Pastor for Young Adults and Missions. Leslie will begin her work with us on April 1 and her service of installation will in a single combined worship service on April 28 at 11:00am in the Sanctuary.

Rev. Leslie Lang is originally from Hendersonville, Tennessee, and received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. After graduation, she moved back to the Nashville area to spend a year as a Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) doing a year of service at Room in the Inn. After spending another year as a full-time staff member at Room in the Inn working as a housing case manager for those experiencing homelessness, she went on to Vanderbilt Divinity School and received her Master of Divinity.

While at Vanderbilt, the field education program offered opportunities for year-long internships at Downtown Presbyterian Church in Nashville and at Cumberland Heights Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center, as well as experience in hospital chaplaincy at St. Th omas, Vanderbilt, and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospitals.

After graduating from Vanderbilt, she received her first call to serve as the Assistant Director at Mere Christianity Forum, an ecumenical campus ministry at Furman University. Leslie provided pastoral care to students and young graduates, organized programming, and oversaw the intentional Christian community of students who lived a mile from Furman’s campus. Leslie left Mere Christianity Forum for an interim pastor position at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina.

While at Fourth Presbyterian Church, Leslie’s main responsibilities included working with the mission and witness committee, overseeing the young adult committee, and facilitating small group discipleship ministry. Her highlights at Fourth included helping them launch a JustFaith ministries group, working with a local community center, and developing relationships with people in the congregation.

In her free time, you can usually find her hanging out in a coffee shop, cooking, reading, or working on her Zumba moves. Leslie is so excited for the opportunity to serve First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg and to get to know this community.
