Next Week at FPC (March 4, 2022)
Dear Friends in Christ,
This Sunday we will say goodbye to Lewis and Bunny Galloway, as Lewis concludes just over a year of faithful and fruitful service to our congregation as Interim Pastor. We give thanks for the ministry he has had with us, and his leadership though challenging times in the life of the church, and we will miss Lewis’ warmth and humor. So don’t miss your opportunity to say thank you and offer your best wishes for his next attempt at retirement on Sunday.
Blessings and Peace,
Craig Foster
Associate Pastor for Discipleship & Communications
World Day of Prayer - TODAY
World Day of Prayer is a global, ecumenical movement of Christian women who pray and act for peace and justice. On the first Friday of March every year, Presbyterian Women join their prayers and voices with women in more than 170 countries and regions. Through World Day of Prayer, women affirm that prayer and action are inseparable and have immeasurable influence in the world. Each year, a different country that participates in World Day of Prayer serves as host country, writing the worship materials and compiling resources about their region’s culture, history, and faith traditions to educate women in other parts of the world. For 2022, these materials have been written by the women of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland (https://wdp-usa.org). Friday, March 4, the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church will be open (9am-5pm) for anyone to come, sit, and pray.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Support for Ukraine
So many have heavy hearts over the war and violence occurring in Ukraine. We as a denomination invite you to pray for peace and strength, as well as for a change of hearts and minds so that world leaders can reach some agreement. If you would like to support humanitarian relief to those fleeing violence in Ukraine, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has set-up a fund to support organizations working directly with families on the ground. Gifts can be made online, by calling (800) 872-3283, by texting PDAUKR to 41444, or by check made payable to Presbyterian Church U.S.A. with "DR000156-Ukraine" on the memo line. Mail to:

Witness Season 2022 – Angel’s Charge Ministry
Angels Charge Ministry serves our area by helping women re-enter society after incarceration. This mission offers a number of services which require transportation: medical care, job skills training, and education. They are in desperate need of a van for these purposes. This Witness Season, please consider giving to this important project. Your gift will be a blessing to these women, their families, and our community. You can give online at fpcspartanburg.org/give or mark checks as “Witness Season” in the memo line.

OTHER NEWS
Website Email Problems
We have recently discovered that there has been a problem with messages sent through the website. In some cases, the message appeared to be sent and was never delivered to the recipient. In those cases, the messages were logged and have now been delivered to the intended recipient. In other cases, after the “Send” button was pressed, the website got hung up at the “Sending…” message. Those messages were not submitted though the website and were not logged or delivered. Some of these problems may have gone as far back as November. Our web developers are working hard to correct the problem

FPC Spartanburg Calls a New Senior Pastor
On January 30, we had a great turnout for our Annual Congregational Meeting and the congregation voted to call the Rev. Alan F. Dyer as our new Senior Pastor and Head of Staff. Alan is currently the senior pastor of St. Simons Presbyterian Church on St Simon’s Island, GA. His first Sunday in our pulpit will be Sunday, March 27, and there will be a welcome reception for him during the Sunday School hour between services. Until then, get to know a little about Alan and his family in this video and on the church website. If you missed the congregational meeting, you can watch a recording of the PNC report here.
Many thanks to the members of our PNC: David Beacham (chair), Bert Barre, Randall Chambers, Molly Colbath, Suzy Cole, Harriet Ike, Whit Kennedy, Craig Kocisko, Carter Smith.
Peace and Justice Task Force Spotlight: Equal Justice Initiative
This month, the Peace and Justice Taskforce is focusing on Isaiah 1:17 as we are called to seek justice and raise awareness. In February we turn our attention to the Equal Justice Initiative, a non-profit organization providing legal representation to people who are illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced, and abused in state prisons and jails. This month, we encourage you to explore the EJI’s website (eji.org) and to educate and raise awareness on EJI’s main focuses of criminal justice reform, racial justice, and public education and awareness through their museum and memorial. If possible, we really encourage visiting the museum and memorial in Montgomery, AL. Please join us at the at the next Peace and Justice Task Force Meeting on Friday, March 25th from 12:30-1:30pm in the Purnell Room (virtual option also available).
