Weekly Update for Holy Week (April 17, 2019)

A Reflection and Prayer for Holy Week
from our congregation’s Prayer Committee
This year the Prayer Committee has invited you to join us in a lectionary
reading and prayer for each week during Lent and Holy Week. Soon we will celebrate Easter, with hearts and souls prepared to renew our baptismal
commitment.
Reading:
The lectionary reading for Easter is Luke’s account of the risen Jesus
revealing himself to his disciples while traveling to Emmaus and, later
that same night, in Jerusalem. Please read
Luke 24:13-49
and rejoice in the revealed glory of Jesus, the Christ.
Prayers:
The prayers this week are the collects for Easter Eve, Easter Day, and
Easter Monday from the Book of Common Prayer (1928/1953).
Grant, O Lord, that as we are baptized into the death of thy blessed Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ, so by continual mortifying our corrupt affections
we may be buried with him; and that through the grave, and gate of death,
we may pass to our joyful resurrection; for his merits, who died, and, was
buried, and rose again for us, the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Almighty God, who through thine only-begotten Son Jesus Christ hast
overcome death, and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life; We humbly
beseech thee that, as by thy special grace preventing us thou dost put into
our minds good desires, so by thy continual help we may bring the same to
good effect; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and
reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost ever, one God, world without end.
Amen.
O God, whose blessed Son did manifest himself to his disciples in the
breaking of bread; Open, we pray thee, the eyes of our faith, that we may
behold thee in all thy works; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen
