Weekly Update for April 26, 2019

Holy Week and Easter were truly amazing this year. Thank you to all the many hands, voices, and hearts that, through your talents and your very presence, made those services and events powerful and memorable occasions for praise and fellowship!

This Sunday we will have another grand celebration as we install the Rev. Leslie A. Lang as our new associate pastor. Please note that there will be only one worship service at 11am on Sunday. See below for more information.

Installation of the Rev. Leslie A. Lang
ONE Service at 11am in the Sanctuary
This Sunday, April 28, we will have a special service of installation for the Rev. Leslie A. Lang, our new Associate Pastor for Young Adults and Missions. There will be only one service that Sunday at 11am in the Sanctuary. Sunday School will happen as usual. After the service there will be a reception in Fogartie Hall so that all can welcome her into ministry with our congregation.

Elementary Mission Sunday
Parents of children in elementary Sunday School classes, don’t forget that this Sunday is our last Mission Sunday of this school year. We’ll be doing our final collection- Funds or Suds- for Thornwell, Hope Center, DR/Haiti, Winter Warmth, SPIHN, Tuesday night meals and TOTAL Ministries. Children can bring any of the following: body wash (not bar soap), hand sanitizer, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, mouthwash, sensitive skin laundry detergent, mints, cough drops, OTC meds (like ibuprofen or Tylenol), school supplies, Instant Breakfast, deodorant, or cash donations.

Youth Fellowship with Dany Nue and Chris Herring
5-7pm in Fogartie Hall
You don’t want to miss the musical and comedic stylings of Chris Herring & Danny Nue! If you attended last year's Fall Retreat to Camp Longridge with our youth, you remember the impact that Danny's music had on that weekend. THIS SUNDAY Danny will be back with his guitar and his good friend, Chip Herring, for a night of music, laughter and FUN. Chip and Danny (aka "Sunny's Groove") have been playing music together for years and love bringing their passion for song and their passion for Christ to middle school, high school and college age students. It will be a great time of fellowship and fun. Please bring a friend! Taco Bell will be provided!! NEXT WEEK
Boy Scout Flowers for Mother’s Day
Orders due by Wednesday, May 1
Our Troop 2 Boy Scouts are selling hanging flower baskets for Mother's Day. Each basket is a varied mix of Spring-blooming flowers, grown locally by a Spartanburg supplier. They are $20 each or $35 for two. They can take full sun and are great container plants! Orders must be placed and pre-paid by May 1. Check should be made out to First Presbyterian Church. Flowers will be available for pick up Saturday, May 11, 10–12 p.m. at the Scout Hut. To buy, contact a Troop 2 Boy Scout. For any other questions or special pick up arrangements, call Melissa Pickens at 864-497-2363.

NO Wednesdays at First until September
We have had a great year of Wednesdays at First meals and activities. Watch for WAF to in early September, and in the meantime, take advantage of the Summer Sizzle activities through the summer.

Habitat House PASTORS’ CHALLENGE Days
As we come into the home stretch on our Habitat for Humanity home build, your pastors want to challenge you to work alongside of us to get this house finished! Look at your schedules and join us on the following days!
Thursday, May 2 (morning) – Christi and Leslie need your help with some flooring!
Tuesday, May 7 (morning) – Craig needs your help to finish up the floors!
Thursday, May 24 (morning) – Tom needs your help with some touch-up painting!

Fellowship Sunday Stickers – Next Sunday, May 5
May 5 will be our next Fellowship Sunday. As a slight change, instead of children giving adults stickers as they talk to them, we’re asking the adults to pick up a few stickers from the table in the Tower Room and strike up a conversation with a child by giving him or her a sticker.

Habitat Women Build Day – Saturday, May 11
8:30am-noon or 12:30-4pm

Calling all ladies! Our Habitat for Humanity Women Build Day is a great opportunity to join with other women to make our Habitat house ready to be a home for a wonderful family. Landscaping will be the project of the day (laying sod, spreading mulch, spreading seed, straw, planting shrubbery, etc.). Visit www.fpcspartanburg.org/habitat to sign up.

Vacation Bible School – June 9-13
Registration is now open!
Mark your calendar now for June 9-13 so that you can be part of this year’s Vacation Bible School. We’ll kick off the week for children on Sunday, June 9, during a special Summer Sizzle with a sing-along, a chance to meet EP3-20, and time to pick up t-shirts and music CDs.
