Weekly Update for September 3, 2021
Dear Friends,
This weekend, in many ways, is the quiet before the storm here at the church. We hope that you all enjoy in safety the break that this long weekend offers! This Sunday we will have one service in the Sanctuary at 10:30am and no Sunday School. But be ready! The fall schedule begins on September 12, with WAF, Children’s Choirs, JustFaith, and so much more right on its heels!

RUN (or walk) FOR CLEVELAND! (Register Here)
The Cleveland Academy of Leadership and The Franklin School (both mission partners of First Pres) will host their annual 5K Race and Fun Run Saturday, September 25, 2021. All proceeds from the race will benefit The Cleveland Opportunity Foundation, a 501c3 that provides access to academic and extra-curricular opportunities that empower the students towards overall success at Cleveland Academy. Both race participants and volunteers are needed (ex: set-up, check-in, handing out water, tear-down)! For more information, contact Leslie Lang.
Support Earthquake Relief in Haiti through HOM (Donate Online)
Our mission partner organization, Haiti Outreach Ministries (HOM) is now accepting financial contributions for earthquake relief in Haiti. They are working to provide food and medical supplies, and they are exploring the possibility of rebuilding homes and drilling a well to provide clean drinking water to the community. All this is possible through the relationship our Terre Noire church has with the church community located in Cavaillon, near the earthquake's epicenter. We will be working through that relationship to aid. Financial contributions will help us to meet needs in the earthquake ravaged area as transportation and safety considerations allow. Make an online donation, or checks may be mailed to HOM, P.O. Box 71042, Durham, NC 27722. Thank you for your continued support and prayers for Haiti.

The Best Yes, A Women’s Bible Study – Wednesdays beginning September 15 at 6:30pm (Order Book)
“Saying yes all the time won’t make me Wonder Woman. It will make me a worn-out woman.” Join Ashley Millinor and Martha Waters as they dive into Lysa TerKeurst‘s The Best Yes. Order a copy of the book here and come to the library on September 15 to discuss chapters 1-3. “Lysa TerKeurst is learning that there is a big difference between saying yes to everyone and saying yes to God. In The Best Yes she will help you:
- Cure the disease to please with a biblical understanding of the command to love.
- Escape the guilt of disappointing others by learning the secret of the small no.
- Overcome the agony of hard choices by embracing a wisdom based decision-making process.
- Rise above the rush of endless demands and discover your best yes today.”
Don’t feel guilty when you don’t have enough time to read. Make the time to come and be around other women who can relate to feelings of being overwhelmed, feelings of not measuring up, and feelings of guilt for not being able to get it all done! You never know when you will be blessed or hear just what God is trying to tell you! Please email Martha Waters if you have any questions.
JUSTFAITH: Faith and Racial Equity
First Presbyterian Church is offering another JustFaith class in the fall! The group will meet at the church on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm starting on September 16th through November 11th.
